New D555 owner Can't find Ethernet camera

No camera can be found, I did make some tries so could see in the viewer an USB connected camera but no stream,

As I can not get this working in windows I have also no tried for 3 days to build all in my WSL Ubuntu 24.04 LTS distr.
but as I am not so familiar with Linux I had help from copilot and this almost sucks even more than me and gave me now about 12 full builds from scratch and always fails in the end.
Last times with PyBinding problems.
I have set my network to what I found after long time that the camera have a default 192.168.11.55 ip and it is answering on Ping
but no device to be found

I have then used a Lenovo PC with MINT Cinnamon that is compatible with Ubuntu 24.04 run both deb-package and built according to the instructions but no camera found.

then found instructions on how to build ROS 2 both Humble and Jazzy with realsense in docker and running with same host network and can ping the camera,
says Running with LibRealSence V2.56.4 but then get No RealSence devices were found .

The purpose for this was to do a pilot for our plants and if successful could be "many" cameras to use for imagdetection with
color and depth with opencv and python of for example right parts in pallets and quality inspections.
I bought a Ubiquity USW-Lite-8-PoE since the poe injector I had was to old.

Any help to provide me with a working solution would be welcome but my time is running out.
I have saved the docker image that can be shared if it helps.

Hi @hansovea A D555 should appear in the Windows Device Manager and in the RealSense Viewer if you have attached the camera to the computer via a USB cable and you do not have an ethernet cable plugged into the computer (the camera will not be detected on USB if an ethernet cable is plugged into it).

If only the USB cable is plugged in and the camera is still not working in Windows, please check the Windows camera privacy settings to ensure that permission for applications to access the camera is set to On. Instructions for doing so can be found at #3381 (comment)

When attempting to set up PoE on Windows, if you have successfully pinged 192.168.11.55 but the SDK is not detecting the camera then please try configuring the Windows network settings to a subnet mask value of 255.255.255.0 - as described in illustrated Windows setup instructions provided by one of my RealSense colleagues at #14293 (comment)

yes I have the correct subnetmask,

I have tried USB connection with 3 different PCs with Windows10, 1 with Windows 11, and one Lenovo with Linux Mint.
All using 3 different USB cables all of them working with connecting my Android Phone so not just Powercable.
I have tried it without ethernet cables in both D555 and computer and also turned off wifi.

Windows 10 PC Says:
USB Device not recognized
The last USB device connected to this computer malfunctioned
and windows does not recognize it

Windows 11 Pc in Device Manager pops up as Unknown USB Device (Invalid Device Descriptor)

However my intention is to use the camera with Ethernet.

In RealSense viewer I wrote I saw the camera USB in the list but realized that it was my Laptopcamera with closed lid.
I added another USB Webcam and it immediately pops up in the realsenseviewer.

I have checked windows firewall all is allowed.

I have turned on Packetmonitor on only the macaddress to the D555, waited some seconds and put the ethernetcable into the camera,(without USB)
It shows multicasts and also added arp registrations when I tried to make the rs-hello-realsense from the 2 windows PCs with installed SDK.
So there is traffic but not enough then.
I added the pktmon file as attachment if you can see anything strange.

Realsenseviewer say version 2.56.5

Is it possible there is something wrong with this camera ?

We should try to get the camera working on USB first to establish that there is not a problem with the camera.

If the camera is not recognized on three different computers and you are getting messages on Windows that the USB device malfunctioned or it is an unknown USB device, that could suggest a problem with the camera firmware driver (the firmware is stored within the camera hardware).

The D555 should be detectable on USB when new out of the box without having to perform a firmware update, as it comes pre-installed with a recent D555-supporting firmware. Do you know whether anyone has performed a firmware update on the camera since it was purchased?

Regarding USB cables, it should be a high quality cable designed for data transfer and not a cable intended only for charging and device sync. So a cable that works with Android devices for charging and sync purposes may not necessarily be suited for use with RealSense cameras.

Having said that, you have not been able to achieve an ethernet connection either, so a firmware driver issue seems to be the more likely of the above possibilities (firmware or cable).

Ok ,thanks, I have ordered a USB 3.2 20Gb cable , should arrive on thursday. So Ill be back after arrival,
If it does not work I guess it will be hard to install firmware , So i hope for the best.
