(to note, i have absolutely no clue what im doing with linux)
its just weird because you need to be in root to even access this file

i was sure i did, but i think where i went wrong was not installing hyprland first since i followed a tutorial that did plasma instead, so im probably going to just reinstall linux entirely with hyprland this time

A minimal install with just TTY should be fine

try to chown your $HOME. Looks like this is a bad installation.

You're logged in as root user. Yay won't allow itself to build if it's running as root. If you were chroot'd in after the arch install, that's probably why.
