Is there a way to maintain two backends?

I want two shortcuts, one should open the wallpaper selector displaying only the .png files, and another should open it while displaying only .mp4 files from another directory? maybe if we could set two backends in ~/.config/hyde/config.toml and define different options for both?

Is this worth complicating things?

Setting more backend is tedious already.

Though we can have a flag something like this.

--filetypes "gif:mp4:"

this filters out other filetypes. As for the backend, It doesn't matter.

@kRHYME7 Basically, I want to be able to open that wallpaper selector normally, and it should display png files (swww) as it is right now, but if I do another shortcut, it should open wallpaper selector but this time show mp4 files, if possible from another directory, and set it with mpvpaper.

@Kamish-69 Hey I realized we can do

 wallpaper.sh --select --filetypes "jpg:png:mp4"

 wallpaper.sh --select --filetypes "mp4"

This is the simplest solution. And it is not breaking.

basically --filetypes is an override for the supported filetypes so this is agnostic to the backend.

Why I want it to be agnostic

It is because wallpaper.sh only provides the list of wallpaper > select a wallpaper > throw it to the backend. And optionally make it global (thumbnails and colors)

As you can see it is a one way route. Adding and option like, filetypes on each backend complicates everything (unless we hardcode it which I hate). You can notice that wallpaper.sh do not know how the backend handles the types, this way it is simpler. And letting the wallpaper.\<backend\>.sh do the job on filtering the input wallpaper.

I guess this is the cleanest thing to do. And using this as a command line ensures that users know what they do.

Now on your keybindings.conf, you can simply do this

wallpaper.sh --select --filetypes "mp4" --backend mpvpaper --global

Also, isn't there a way to implement a better way to change waybar layout? Something like that wallpaper selector, cuz otherwise I can't really see all the layouts at once and select one of them, it's just blindly clicking next, next and next.
