High cpu usage in hyprland with mpvpaper

i triple boot(dont ask, i dont understand myself at times) two arch linux and fedora, all have hyprland, one arch(ARC1) and fedora has ml4w dotfiles and one arch has Hyde(ARC2), when i run one mpvpaper cmd with the same file in all three, i get minimal cpu usage 3-5% in fedora and ARC1 gets around the same, BUT ARC2 with Hyde dotfiles, get 8% with the exact same cmd and file..

try to switch off some nvidia stuff rm ~/.config/hypr/nvidia.conf

its not nvidia, just a normal potato laptop with integrated graphics from an intel cpu

@kRHYME7 Any update on this? I've tried out different mpvpaper commands but the cpu usage does not change.

Both the arches have the latest version, while I was too lazy to update fedora and it's still 0.48.0. I tried that render thing, and now the cpu usage is pretty unstable, about 7-10 percent, reaching 13 once, but mainly around 8. Is scale a factor in this? cuz everything is much bigger in the other ones.

how about difference in drivers? mesa etc?

Also triggering gamemode.sh then playing mpvpaper doesn't help?

Can you tell me the exact cmds to find out drivers?

As for gamemode, it went from around 7.5% to 8% to 7% to 7.5%. and it occasionally drops to 6.

try to use the powersave workflow.

workflows.sh --select

Or run mpvpaper inside an isolated session 

hyprland -c /usr/share/hypr/hyprland.conf

No such command for the first. And in the second, none of the shortcuts seem to be working to open the terminal so I can run mpvpaper, so I just closed it with Super + M.

Try disabling the borderangle animation.

in ~/.config/hypr/animations/animations-default.conf

try commenting out the line

animation = borderangle, 1, 30, liner, once

I would get a TON of CPU usage previously running the old Hyprdots setup, something ridiculous like 30-40%. Disabling that line fixed it for me then. Not sure if this will apply to your situation, but its worth a try.

Another note is we can use animations.sh --select to toggle

I commented it out from theme.conf but its still around 7-8%.

It's not that I can't survive without mpvpaper, but I merely want to know why there is a difference in the cpu usages of the same WM?

I'm curious too. I can't test it vigorously for now. So I'll be waiting for someone with the same symptoms. Though my CpU always spikes whenever I play a video on my laptop.
